Let me tell you something, my fellow humans. The alphabet is just a series of sounds we make with our mouths to communicate with each other. But have you ever thought about how weird it can get if you really start thinking about it? Well, luckily for you, I have. And I'm going to share some hilarious insights with you, all while presenting to you this alphabet phonics sounds chart that I found.
First off...
Why do we call the letter 'w' 'double-u'? It doesn't even look like two 'u's! It looks like two 'v's! And don't even get me started on the letter 'y'. Is it a vowel? Is it a consonant? Make up your mind, 'y'!
Now, let's talk about some of the sounds...
The letter 'b' sounds like a big, boisterous, blunt noise. 'D' just sounds like you're stopping yourself from saying the full word 'the'. And 'g' sounds like it's stuck in your throat.
But wait, it gets weirder...
Why does 'o' sound like a funeral dirge ('ohhh') while 'e' sounds like pure joy ('eeee')? And why does 'j' sound like it's laughing at you ('juh-juh-juh')?
And then there's 'x'...
'x' is just a complete wild card. It can sound like 'ks', 'gz', or even like the 'z' in 'azure' (which, by the way, is a super fancy word for 'blue-green'). Who knew one little letter could be such a chameleon?
One last thought...
Why do we have to memorize all of these sounds? Can't we just grunt and point to things like cavemen did? Just a thought.
